Lead Mechanical Engineer Hydro
Job Summary
The Lead Mechanical Engineer will focus on Hydro Turbine and Generator rehabilitation and new projects within the Fleet Reliability & Operation team. This role involves providing engineering support for site activities, resolving technical issues, and ensuring project completion. The position requires travel within the USA for site visits, customer meetings, and training.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support for site turbine and generator activities
- Resolve technical non-conformities and warranty issues
- Manage documentation for service projects and refurbishment
- Serve as primary site contact for operations and maintenance
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in hydro industry
- Expertise in turbine and generator design
- Strong technical communication and remote collaboration skills
- Proficiency in material strength and finite element simulation
Job Details
Essential Responsibilities:
Fleet (Engineering support of site activities):
- Conduct site visits to assess the existing turbine and/or generator condition, supervise signature tests on the unit before disassembly at site.
- Daily phone call with site team to answer questions and for problem anticipations.
- Provide additional work recommendation upon dismantling and inspection of existing components.
- Site record sheet review and approval.
- Non-conformity and general issue resolution.
- Conduct site visits during the critical phases of the project.
- Support commissioning and test phase.
Reliability:
- Issue resolution during warranty period.
- Provide Feedback of experience to the design team.
Operation:
- Main site contact for operation and maintenance contracts.
Service:
- Design and related documentation preparation for service projects including customer support, condition assessment, spare parts, part refurbishment, partial unit refurbishment.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in hydro business.
Desired Characteristics:
- Willingness and ability to travel in North America and around the world.
- Ability to work remotely in a team and communicate effectively.
- Must have unrestricted USA work authorization.
- Creativity, reactivity, sense of urgency, priority management, proactivity, and autonomy.
- Knowledge on Hydro Turbine and Generator design and erecting methods.
- PE license is preferred.
- Knowledge of calculation methods related to the strength of materials, finite element simulation, metallurgy and welding processes are added values for the job.
