As a Staff Software Engineer for the Overseer platform, you will architect systems to ensure cross-service financial correctness at scale. You will lead the development of invariant enforcement frameworks, AI-powered guardrails, and real-time detection engines. This role involves defining technical strategy and mentoring engineering teams to drive infrastructure reliability.

Job Details
Responsibilities:
- Define and drive the architecture of the correctness layer across Coinbase's fund flows, ranging from real-time invariant enforcement to AI-powered guardrails.
- Own the core platform, including the invariant definition framework, real-time detection engine, and APIs/tooling used by partner teams.
- Lead the AI guardrails workstream, focusing on predictive consistency models and proactive invariant discovery.
- Set technical direction for the team, make high-stakes architecture decisions, and raise the engineering bar.
- Partner cross-functionally with Transfer Service, Ledger, Payments, Risk, and Compliance teams to define correctness requirements.
- Mentor engineers and translate platform vision into an executable roadmap.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience.
- Proven track record in building fault-tolerant, high-reliability distributed systems at scale.
- Platform-builder mindset with experience developing infrastructure for other teams.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical work with significant impact.
- Strong judgment in prioritizing complex correctness problems.
- Experience responsibly using generative AI tools and copilots with human-in-the-loop practices.
Nice to haves:
- Experience with financial systems, reconciliation, or ledgering at scale.
- Knowledge of streaming data infrastructure (Kafka, Flink, etc.).
- Proficiency with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Postgres, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
- Familiarity with onchain activity, Ethereum addresses, ENS, and dApps.
- Experience working through rapid company growth (scaling from 10s to 100s of engineers).
